Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we generally rely on:

  • Performance of a contract: where processing is necessary to create your account and provide the app, content and services you request.

  • Legitimate interests: where processing is reasonably necessary to operate, secure, analyse and improve Sim de la Mode, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

  • Consent: where you choose to receive marketing, enable notifications, accept non-essential cookies or otherwise give permission for particular processing.

  • Legal obligations: where information must be used or retained to comply with applicable law.

Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

3. Cookies and website analytics

The website may use essential cookies and similar technologies required for security, session management, basic operation and website functionality.

Depending on your cookie choices, Wix may also use analytics cookies and similar technologies to help us understand website visits, navigation and interactions.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some essential cookies may affect how parts of the website function.

4. App analytics, diagnostics and security

We use Google Firebase services to operate the app, understand how it is used, diagnose technical problems and protect it from misuse.

Firebase Analytics may collect information about app interactions, engagement, installations and the app or device being used.

Firebase Crashlytics may collect crash reports, crash traces, installation identifiers, app-version information, operating-system information, device information and related diagnostic data.

We may use Firebase App Check and similar security measures to verify that requests are coming from a genuine version of the app and to help prevent fraud, abuse and unauthorised access.

We use this information to identify faults, monitor reliability, understand general usage and improve the app.

We do not use analytics or crash information for third-party targeted advertising.

5. Email communications and push notifications

We may send essential service communications relating to your account, security, purchases, support requests or important changes to the app. These are not marketing messages.

We send promotional emails, product news and updates only where you have agreed to receive them or where we are otherwise permitted to do so under applicable electronic-marketing rules.

You can unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe link included in the message or by contacting hello@simdelamode.com.

We may retain a minimal record of your unsubscribe request so that we can continue to respect your choice.

We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications. This service may process an app installation identifier, Apple push-notification token, device model, language, time zone, operating-system version, app identifier and app version.

You can manage or disable push notifications at any time through your device settings.

6. In-app purchases

The app includes or may include in-app purchases processed by Apple through the App Store.

Apple processes payment and transaction information under its own terms and privacy practices. We do not process or store your complete payment-card or bank details.

We record only the information needed to establish which content has been purchased or unlocked for your account, restore access and provide purchase support.

7. Third-party services

We use third-party providers to operate the website and app, including:

  • Wix, for website hosting, website functionality, forms, communications and website analytics;

  • Google Firebase Authentication, for account creation and sign-in;

  • Google Cloud Firestore, for storing account information, progress, choices, entitlements and other app data;

  • Google Firebase Storage, for storing app files and content;

  • Google Firebase Analytics, for app usage and engagement analytics;

  • Google Firebase Crashlytics, for crash reports and diagnostics;

  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, for push notifications;

  • Google Firebase App Check, where enabled, for app security and integrity checks; and

  • Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, app distribution and App Store analytics.

Depending on the service involved, these providers may process account information, technical information, device information, installation identifiers, IP addresses, cookie information, usage information, diagnostic data or limited transaction information.

These providers process information under their own terms, privacy notices and data-protection arrangements.

We may also disclose limited personal information:

  • where required by law or a valid legal request;

  • where reasonably necessary to protect users, our rights or the security of the service;

  • to investigate fraud, abuse or unauthorised activity;

  • to establish, exercise or defend legal claims;

  • to professional advisers who are subject to confidentiality obligations; or

  • in connection with an investment, business reorganisation, sale or transfer, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell personal information.

8. International processing

Wix, Google, Apple and their service providers may process information in countries outside the country where you live.

Where applicable data-protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, we rely on transfer arrangements intended to provide an appropriate level of protection. These may include adequacy decisions, approved contractual safeguards or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

You may contact hello@simdelamode.com for further information about the safeguards relevant to your information.

9. Data storage and security

Account, progress and app information is stored using Google Firebase services. Website and contact-form information may be stored through Wix.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, loss, misuse or disclosure.

These measures may include:

  • encryption during transmission;

  • account authentication;

  • access controls;

  • Firebase database and storage security rules;

  • app-integrity and abuse-prevention measures; and

  • restricting access to those who need it to operate, maintain, secure or support Sim de la Mode.

No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Data retention

Account, progress and brand-profile information is generally retained for as long as your account remains active.

Purchase and entitlement records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to restore purchases, provide support, prevent fraud, resolve disputes and maintain appropriate transaction records.

Support communications and enquiries are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate records and deal with related issues.

Website analytics, app analytics, security and diagnostic information is retained according to the applicable provider settings and for as long as reasonably necessary to understand performance, improve the service and protect its security.

Some technical information may be aggregated or may not be directly linked to your account.

We may retain limited information for longer where reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with a legal or accounting obligation;

  • maintain transaction records;

  • prevent or investigate fraud and abuse;

  • resolve disputes; or

  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

11. Account deletion

You can request account deletion through the profile or settings section of the app.

Depending on your sign-in method and authentication status, deletion may be completed immediately through the app or the account may be marked for deletion so that the request can be completed manually.

When account deletion is completed:

  • your Firebase Authentication account is deleted; and

  • the personal account, progress and associated user data stored for you in Cloud Firestore is deleted.

Technical analytics, crash, security and installation records that are not directly stored as part of your account may remain for a limited period under the applicable provider-retention processes.

Some information may also remain temporarily in secure backups or system logs until those records are overwritten or expire.

Limited information may be retained where reasonably necessary for legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, transaction-record or dispute-resolution purposes.

You can also request deletion or ask a question about the deletion process by contacting hello@simdelamode.com.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, the circumstances and the legal basis being used, you may have the right to:

  • request access to the personal information held about you;

  • ask for inaccurate or incomplete information to be corrected;

  • request deletion of your information;

  • request restriction of processing;

  • object to certain processing;

  • object to direct marketing;

  • request a portable copy of certain information;

  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and

  • complain to a relevant data-protection authority.

These rights are not absolute and may not apply to every type of information or in every circumstance.

You can change certain account details and initiate account deletion through the app. For other requests, contact hello@simdelamode.com.

Requests will be handled in accordance with the data-protection law that applies to you. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Your right to object

You may object at any time to the use of your personal information for direct marketing. You can do this through the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or by contacting hello@simdelamode.com.

You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will consider your request and stop the processing unless there are compelling legitimate grounds to continue or the information is needed for legal claims.

Complaints

You may complain to the data-protection authority responsible for your country or region.

People in the United Kingdom may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.

People in the European Economic Area may contact the supervisory authority in the country where they live or work or where they believe a data-protection infringement occurred.

13. Children and teenagers

Sim de la Mode is intended for users aged 13 and over. Children under 13 are not permitted to create an account.

Because Sim de la Mode is used by teenage learners, we aim to explain our data practices clearly and collect only information reasonably needed to provide, protect and improve the service.

We do not sell users’ personal information or use it for third-party targeted advertising.

If you are under 18, we encourage you to review this policy with a parent or guardian.

If you believe that a child under 13 has created an account or provided personal information, contact hello@simdelamode.com. We will investigate and take appropriate action, including deleting the account and associated information where appropriate.

14. Automated decisions

We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on users.

Quizzes, recommendations, role results and other in-app outcomes are educational or entertainment features. They do not determine access to education, employment, credit or other significant opportunities.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, website, technology, service providers or legal requirements change.

When the policy is updated, the “Last updated” date will be revised.

Where a change materially affects how personal information is used, we will provide an appropriate notice through the app, website or email.
